2020 Tamio Yamakawa Award

The Japan Consortium for Glycobiology and Glycotechnology (JCGG) established the Tamio Yamakawa Award, to honor the distinguished career of Professor Tamio Yamakawa and his outstanding contributions to the field of Glycoscience. This international award is presented every two years to a glycoscientist who has made widely recognized and major contributions to the field of Glycoscience and is, in principle, a currently active researcher.

Dr. Kelvin Campbell 2020, the 3rd, Tamio Yamakawa Award has been decided by the selection committee and JCGG executive board to go to Dr. Kevin P. Campbell who has led to significant insights into the molecular pathogenesis of the glycosylation-deficient muscular dystrophy and has profound clinical implications for the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases. The award ceremony and Tamio Yamakawa Award Lecture were held in the 18th JCGG Symposium, December 7, 2021, Tokyo.

The 1st Tamio Yamakawa Award was presented to Prof. Markus Aebi of ETH Zurich on November 1, 2016, and the 2nd Award to Prof. Gerald Hart on October 26, 2018.
